UND, USD, and SDSU earn #SummitOTF Kwik Star weekly accolades

North Dakota, South Dakota and South Dakota State were represented in the fifth weekly honor of the year

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –  North Dakota, South Dakota, and South Dakota State were represented in the fifth Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week accolades, League officials released Tuesday. SDSU’s Cody Larson, and USD’s Tre Young took home the honors on the men’s side while the Fighting Hawk duo of Jadyn Keeler and Kenna Curry swept the honors on the women’s side.

Larson clocked a career best time in the 3,000-meter steeple chase at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Racing against some the nation’s best in the event, the Jackrabbit junior finished seventh with a time of 8:30.96. 

The Warner S.D., native’s time ranks 10th in the NCAA and is tops in the Summit League this season. Larson also recorded a carrer best in the 1,500-meter after running a 3:44.29 to take second in his heat and post the second best time in the league. 

Young won the pole vault at the Mt. SAC Relays with a season best leap of 17-9”.  The Coyote senior took over sole possession of first place in the Summit League after breaking a tie with his teammate.  The Toledo, Ohio., native is tied for 20th in the NCAA this season.

Keeler crossed the finish line in the 5,000-meter with a time of 15:33.59  at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The Fighting Hawk junior placed eleventh in a loaded field and ranks first in the Summit League this season and 18th in the NCAA. 

The Barrie, Ontario, Canada, native also ran a personal best of 4:20.03 in the 1,500 meter to take over the top spot in the Summit League standings. 

Curry claimed the hammer throw title at the Cal State LA Twilight with a personal record toss of 222-1”. The Fighting Hawk graduate senior sits atop the league standings and improved her personal best by nearly seven feet. 

The Elk Point, S.D., native ranks fifth in the NCAA in the hammer throw this season. Curry also finished fourth in the shot-put at the Beach Invite with a toss of 51-11.25”.
