UST’s Cook, UNO’s Groff honored in latest Kwik Star #SummitSB weekly awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Thomas’ Ella Cook and Omaha Maddia Groff were named the Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, league officials announced Monday. Groff earned the accolade for the second consecutive week, while Cook secured her first honor of the season.
 
Cook paced the Tommies’ offense during a 5-0 week, batting .600 (9-for-15) with 14 RBI across series sweeps of Green Bay and Kansas City.
 
Against Green Bay, Cook went 4-for-7 with eight RBI. She tallied a solo home run and a two-run single in the opener, helping St. Thomas to a 10-2 win, before delivering a 3-for-4 performance with six RBI and another home run in a 14-1 victory.
 
She carried momentum against Kansas City, going 5-for-8 with six RBI over three games. Cook notched a double and two runs scored in a 10-2 win, then drove in five runs and hit her third home run of the week in an 11-3 victory to close the series.
 
Groff helped Omaha secure the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Summit League Softball Championship, leading the Mavericks to a series sweep of South Dakota State. The sophomore posted a 2-0 record with a 0.47 ERA across two starts, striking out 13.
 
In the series opener, Groff tossed a 10-inning shutout, striking out 11 in a 2-0 win. She followed up with a five-inning outing in the finale, recording two strikeouts and giving up one run on four hits in a 9-8 victory to help clinch the series.
