SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha catcher Rylinn Groff and lefthander Maddia Groff claimed the latest Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week honors, League officials announced Monday. Rylinn earned the first award of her season, while her twin sister, Maddia, claimed her fourth to help the Mavericks sweep North Dakota State.
Rylinn hit .500 during a 4-0 week for the Mavericks, which included a 3-2 victory over Creighton and three wins over the Bison. In the three games against the Bison, the Mavericks sophomore went 5-for-10, scored four runs and hit her first career home run.
In the first game of the NDSU series, the Omaha, Neb., native went 3-for-4 and her two-run homer in the third put the Mavericks on the scoreboard in an eventual 4-0 victory. She added her ninth multiple-hit game of the season in game two. Rylinn would also score the first Omaha runs during game two and game three, helping the Mavericks outscore NDSU 16-1 in those wins.
Rylinn formed the battery mate with her sibling in three starts during the week as Maddia continued her dominant season in the circle. Maddia picked up three wins to improve to 16-4 on the season, while striking out 26 and allowing only one earned run in 16.1 innings pitched.
In Omaha's 3-2 win over Creighton, Maddia surrendered one hit and one earned in 5.1 innings of work, while striking out nine Bluejays.
In the opener vs. NDSU, the Omaha, Neb., native yielded just three hits and fanned eight Bison over six scoreless innings. The Maverick sophomore capped the NDSU sweep by logging five more scoreless frames and added nine more punchouts. Maddia now has 24 consecutive scoreless innings in Summit League play.
