#SummitSB Weekly Notebook: NCAA Tournament Edition

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the third time in program history, Omaha will represent The Summit League at the NCAA Softball Regionals. The Summit League Tournament champions claimed a spot in the field of 64 and will be the No. 3 seed at the Norman Regional. The Mavericks begin their journey Friday against No. 2 seed California, while No. 4 seed Boston University will take on the host and No. 1 seed Oklahoma.

• Omaha won its third straight Summit League Championship with a 4-2 win over South Dakota in the title game Saturday in Brookings, S.D.
• The Mavericks earned the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth and will open regional play as a No. 3 seed against Cal on Friday, May 16, in Norman, Okla.
• Omaha (39-11) bounced back after a 9-1 run-rule loss to South Dakota in Game 1 of the championship round.
• Maddia Groff (26-5) threw a complete game in the finale, allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
• Groff threw her 18th complete game of the season in the championship win, finishing with no walks and 98 pitches.
• Rylinn Groff delivered a two-run single in the second inning to spark Omaha’s three-run frame in the winner-take-all game.
• Maggie O’Brien and Sammy Schmidt both had multi-hit games in the championship clincher.
• Omaha is one of only five Division I programs with three or more consecutive conference titles.
• The Mavericks enter the NCAA Tournament with a No. 47 RPI and No. 9 Mid-Major ranking, both program bests.
• Omaha reached the Columbia Regional final last year and returns to the NCAA Championship for the third consecutive season.
