Titles defended and NCAA standards met on day two of the 2026 #SummitSD Championships

Back-to-back titles and NCAA Standards highlight second day of swimming and diving championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa – A handful of defended titles and an NCAA Standard cut performance highlighted day two of the 2026 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.

Denver’s Sabrina Rachjaibun set the tone for day two by claiming gold in the 500-yard freestyle, improving on her preliminary swim by more than a second to defend her title in 4:49.40. The Broomfield, Colo., native also led the prelims with a time of 4:50.92.
 
Alex Parkinson of South Dakota closed out the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 4:22.31 to secure gold. Parkinson finished ahead of a strong showing from Denver, as the Pioneers claimed second through fifth in the event.
 
The Pioneers controlled the 200-yard medley, as freshman Samantha Synsvoll claimed the women’s title in 2:00.13, while junior Nico Morton followed with a victory on the men’s side, touching in 1:47.44.
 
After Denver’s Julia Saxman captured the women’s 50-yard freestyle in 22.75, South Dakota’s Nick Rounds delivered a record-breaking swim on the men’s side. Rounds surpassed the previous championship mark of 19.17 set by Sid Farber of Denver in 2020, while also securing an automatic NCAA qualifier with a Standard cut (19.43).
 
On the boards in the women’s one-meter, Denver’s Savanna Berry completed the diving sweep after winning the preliminary round and then claiming gold with a score of 261.25. Pioneer teammate Kaitlin Calvery finished second with a score of 258.30. The DU duo was followed by Southern Indiana’s Anna Bunnell in third place (253.45), garnering the first medal of the meet for the Screaming Eagles.
 
Swimming action concluded with relay victories, as the Denver foursome of Saxman, Tenaya Winter, Ali Beay, and Isabella Cardenas claimed gold in the women’s 200-yard relay (1:31.31). On the men’s side, South Dakota answered with a win from the quartet of Rounds, James Schreiber, Matthew Sorbe, and Jordan Hogue (1:18.55).
 
In the closing event of day two action, the Omaha diving team of Nathan Frette, Owen Kipp, and Stone Larson scored 347.85 points to grab the final gold medal of Thursday’s action.
