SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota infielder Brooke Carey and Omaha pitcher Alexis Wiggins were deemed this week’s Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week, League officials announced Tuesday.
Carey turned in a strong weekend at the plate against St. Thomas, collecting three hits across three games while leading South Dakota offensively. The junior recorded a multi-hit performance in the Coyotes’ win on Saturday, going 2-for-3 in the contest to help power the offense a 6-3 victory.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., native added another hit in Sunday’s finale, finishing the weekend with two runs scored and multiple extra-base hits, including a home run.
Wiggins earned two wins in the circle for Omaha as the Mavericaks outscored Kansas City 27-0 across three run-rule victories this past weekend. The senior tossed 8.0 innings over the weekend, striking out four while allowing just one extra-base hit.
The Adams, Neb., native held opposing batters to a .107 average and did not issue a walk, showcasing strong command throughout the series.
