GREENWOOD, Ind. - North Dakota State track and field student-athletes Zach McGlynn and Paul Olson were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Division I Team, the organization announced Tuesday. McGlynn earned first-team honors, while Olson was selected to the second team.
The recognition marked the first Academic All-America honor of Olson's career and the second for McGlynn. The NDSU men's track & field program has now claimed 20 Academic All-America honors since the school's Division I transition.
McGlynn (Stephen, Minn.) earned an undergraduate degree in agricultural economics with a 4.0 GPA and an MBA with a 4.0 as well. During the outdoor season, he broke both the NDSU school record and the Summit League championship record in the decathlon with an NCAA-qualifying score of 7,922 points before finishing 14th at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
During the indoor season, McGlynn also broke the NDSU school record in the heptathlon, scoring 5,995 points to place seventh at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Bison senior additionally earned the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award at the indoor national meet.
Olson (Oxbow, N.D.) recorded a 4.0 GPA to earn his undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems and an MBA with a 4.0 as well. He qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon, ultimately placing 18
thwith 7185 points. Olson was also named the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award for outdoor track and field and captured the Summit League title in the heptathlon during the indoor season.
