SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts’ Abraham Chelangam and South Dakota’s Geneva Timmerman earned the first Summit League Cross Country Peak Performer of the Week honors of the season, league officials announced Tuesday. Both runners turned in winning performances at their respective season-opening meets, with Chelangam claiming the men’s individual title at the Bob Timmons XC Classic and Timmerman winning the women’s race at the Augustana Twilight.
Chelangam captured the men’s 6K individual title at the Bob Timmons XC Classic with a time of 17:58.8, helping the Golden Eagles to a third-place team finish. The redshirt senior has now won the Bob Timmons XC Classic three consecutive seasons.
Timmerman paced the Coyotes to a first-place team finish in the women’s 5K at the Augustana Twilight, crossing the finish line first with a personal-best time of 16:59.0. The Adel, Iowa, native’s performance marked the second-fastest 5K in South Dakota program history at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.
