SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver men’s tennis athlete James Davis and women’s tennis athlete Britt Pursell secured this week’s Summit League tennis athletes of the week after going undefeated during the weekend’s competition.
Davis finished the weekend undefeated in both singles and doubles for the Pioneers. He teamed up with Matt Summers at the No. 1 spot to help secure the doubles point over Wichita State. Davis then went on to defeat Murkel Dellien in the No. 2 spot in straight sets. Against UNLV, Davis and Summers defeated their opponents in the top spot of the doubles line up and then Davis went on to clinch a victory at the No. 2 spot over Jordan Saurer in straight sets.
Pursell went 3-0 on the weekend starting off with a victory at the No. 3 spot of the lineup (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) over Kansas’ Carmen Roxana Manu to clinch the 5-2 victory for the Pioneers. In a tough 4-2 loss to Kansas State, Pursell and partner Camille Verden-Anderson picked up a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot of the doubles lineup. She then claimed her final victory of the weekend in the No. 3 spot in the singles lineup defeating Kansas State’s Margot Decker 6-1, 6-2.
