SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts’ Isaac Coffey and North Dakota State’s Cade Feeney shared the latest #SummitBSB Pitcher of the Week honor, while South Dakota State’s Luke Ira picked up the player accolade, league officials announced Monday.
Both Coffey and Feeney logged complete-game victories in their starts last weekend, while Ira batted .538 in the Jacks’ series split with Omaha.
For Coffey, his second straight complete game featured 12 strikeouts and zero walks as he allowed just six hits and one earned run to pick up a win over Houston Baptist. The 12 strikeouts were a career-high and the most for an ORU starter since current Colorado Rockies’ pitcher Alex Gonalez fanned a dozen in April of 2013.
The Goleta, Calif., native improved to 4-1 on the season took over the league lead in strikeouts with 58.
Feeney secured the first weekly honor of his career after tossing NDSU’s first complete-game shutout since May of 2018. The righthander went all nine innings, allowing just three hits while fanning five in the best start of his young career.
Ira’s efforts at the plate helped the Jacks rally from a 2-0 series hole to salvage a split as he registered multiple-hits in each of the last three games against the Mavericks. In SDSU’s doubleheader sweep on Sunday, Ira went 4-for-7 with two doubles and a pair of RBI.
In the finale where the Jacks scored six in the bottom of the ninth, Ira had a key sacrifice fly in the final frame, finishing the game 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a run scored to go along with his RBI.
