The Mavericks’ Hulme, Fighting Hawks’ Zdravkovic claim tennis athlete of the week awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha’s Matt Hulme and North Dakota’s Nina Zdravkovic went undefeated this past weekend earning them this week’s Summit League men’s and women’s tennis athletes of the week accolades.

Despite the Mavericks going 0-2 on the weekend, Hulmes put up a perfect 4-0 record against his opponents. In Omaha’s 5-2 loss to DePaul, Hulmes teamed up with Adboul Ouattara at the No. 1 spot in doubles to claim a slim 7-6 victory to clinch the doubles point headed into singles action. Hulme went on to claim the second point for the Mavericks collecting a two-set victory (6-4, 6-2) at the top spot of the singles lineup.

The next day, Hulme earned the Mavericks lone point of the match in a 4-1 loss to Western Michigan. Hulme and Ouattara posted a victory for Omaha with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 match of doubles. Hulme then went on to claim a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jannik Opitz on the No. 1 court in singles.

Zdravkovic went 2-0 in singles play from the No. 5 spot over the weekend to help the Fighting Hawks clinch a spot at the Summit League Tennis Championship. In the Fighting Hawks’ 6-1 win over Omaha, Zdravkovic and Allie Ochotorena were ahead on the No. 2 court of doubles before play was called. She then went on to match up against Brooke Covington on the No. 5 court and defeat her 6-3, 6-1.

In the 5-2 win over South Dakota, Zdravkovic and Ochotorena helped secure the doubles point for an early lead defeating Habiba Aly and Natka Kmoskova 6-2.
