SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota’s Edmond Aynedjian and Denver’s Camille Verden-Anderson collected this week’s TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, league officials released Tuesday.
Aynedjian and the Fighting Hawks finished the weekend undefeated after beating Marquette (6-1) and Eastern Illinois (7-0) on the road. Aynedjian teamed up with Cian McDonnell on the No. 2 doubles court and defeated Marquette’s duo of Tin Krstulovic and Stefan Dragovic 6-2 to seal the 1-0 advantage for the Fighting Hawks,
At the No. 2 singles court, after a first set loss, Aynedjian bounced back to claim the match victory with a 6-4 win in the second set and the tiebreak.
Against Eastern Illinois, Aynedjian and McDonnell once against secured the doubles point with a 6-1 victory on the No. 2 doubles court. At the No. 2 singles court, he capped off a perfect weekend defeating EIU’s Christos Kyrillou (7-6, 6-1).
In the season-opening 4-3 loss to the Pac-12’s Washington, Verden-Anderson partnered with Britt Pursell to take a 6-1 victory against the Huskies at the No. 1 doubles court. On the No. 5 singles court, she got the first point on the board for the Pioneers with a straight-set (7-5, 7-5) victory over Zoey Weil.
In Denver’s 4-2 win over Cal Poly, Verden-Anderson gave the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage en route to the victory after winning a pair of tiebreakers (7-6, 7-6) in her straight-sets on the No. 5 singles court.
