SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha third basemen Mike Boeve and North Dakota State righthander Evan Sankey garnered the first TicketSmarter Summit League Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, following the opening weekend of the college baseball season, Summit League officials announced Monday.
Boeve claimed the second Player of the Week award of his career after he recorded a .600 batting average (9-for-15), registered a 1.000 slugging percentage and posted a .727 on-base percentage in the four-game series at San José State. The Hastings, Neb., notched three multi-hit games and walked six times in the series, while leading all Division I players with 11 runs scored last weekend.
Boeve opened the series with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate including a walk and scored three runs. In UNO’s first win of the season, Boeve had four hits, drove in two runs and recorded two walks in the 15-0 triumph over the Spartans. In the series finale, Boeve went 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning.
Sankey earned the first Pitcher of the Week award of his career after he went five scoreless innings and picked up the game-three victory against Abilene Christian. The senior struck out a trio of batters and didn’t allow a walk to give the Bison a lead in the four-game set that they would eventually take 3-1.
