Indoor Track and Field Championships to kick off Friday

The 2022 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships start Friday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –  The 2022 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted Friday and Saturday at the Frederick “Fritz” D. Pollard Jr. Athletic Center in Grand Forks, N.D. This is the first time in league history that the Fighting Hawks have hosted the indoor championships.
 
The championships will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT on both days with the multi-events. Field events will start at 3 p.m. CT on Friday and 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. Running events will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Tickets can be purchased at the event. Day passes will be $10 per adult and $5 per student/child.
 
80's Promotions
The Summit League turns 40 during the 2021-22 academic year and in honor of the ruby anniversary, the league has a handful of promotions going on during the championship with opportunities for fans to win 80's themed prize packs. More information can be found here.

Men's Front Runners
  • North Dakota State looks to claim its third consecutive Summit League Indoor Championship title and sixth in the last seven years.
  • In the Summit League preseason poll, the Bison were projected to take the title by a five-point margin over South Dakota and South Dakota State both of which tied for runner-up.
  • South Dakota enters the championships holding the third-best pole vault squad and the 10th-best weight throw team in the nation.
  • North Dakota State’s shot put squad ranks sixth coming into the championships while St. Thomas’ heptathlon event squad sits ninth nationally.
  • Seven men look to defend their 2021 indoor league titles: North Dakota State’s Brandon Lewis (long and triple jump), Oral Roberts’ Bradley Dormeus (400m), South Dakota’s Brithton Senior (60m hurdles) and Jack Durst (high jump), South Dakota State’s Tom Breuckman (mile, 3,000m) and Joseph Minor-Williams (5,000m) and Western Illinois’ Ackeen Colley (800m).
  • Six student-athletes rank in the top 25 nationally in their respective events: NDSU’s Trevor Otterdahl (No. 9 – weight throw) and Kristoffer Thomsen (No. 20 – shot put), USD’s Eerik Haamer (No. 7 – pole vault) and Marshall Faurot (No. 18 – pole vault), SDSU’s Trent Francom (No. 11 pole vault) and WIU’s Ackeen Colley (No. 20 – 800m).

  • North Dakota’s pentathlon squad ranks eighth nationally heading into the championships.
  • Seven women return this season and look to repeat as champions in their respective events: North Dakota State’s Jodi Lipp (long and triple jump), Daejha Moss (high jump) and Amy Phillips (weight throw) South Dakota’s Sara Reifenrath (200m and 400m), Gen Hirata (pole vault) and Holly Gerberding (heptathlon) and South Dakota State’s Rich-Ann Archer (60m).
  • Three student-athletes enter championship weekend ranked in the top 25 nationally in their individual events: UND’s Elise Ulseth (No. 20 – pentathlon) and USD’s (Gen Hirata – No. 16 pole vault) and Marleen Mulla (No. 19 – pole vault).
