SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Omaha third baseman Mike Boeve and St. Thomas lefthander Graham Laubscher collected the latest TicketSmarter #SummitBSB weekly awards, league officials announced Monday. Boeve is the first repeat winner of the Player of the Week award, while Laubscher is the first Tommie baseball player to earn an individual weekly award.
Boeve boosted his league-leading batting average to .388 after going 7-for-16 during a 3-1 week for the Mavericks. He opened the week with a RBI-single and run scored in a 6-5 win over Nebraska before going 6-for-13 in a Summit League series win over Northern Colorado.
After Omaha dropped the opening game to the Bears, the Hastings, Neb., native homered and drove in four runs in each of the next two contests as the Mavericks improved to 6-3 in League play.
In game two of the series, Boeve went 2-for-4 with a RBI-single in the second and three-run homer in the fourth. In the series-clinching win, Boeve went 3-for-4, adding a two-run single in the first and capping the scoring with a two-run homer in the fourth.
Laubscher went 8.1 scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 15 to earn his first Division I victory as St. Thomas defeated league-leading North Dakota State 6-0 in the opening game of a three-game Summit League series. He set down the first 17 Bison he faced before surrendering a bloop single to right field in the bottom of the sixth to break up the perfect game.
The lefthander yielded just one more hit to the league’s top offense (came in batting .327 and averaging 11.2 runs per League game) before departing with one out in the ninth.
