USD's Sjerven, NDSU's Williams claim TicketSmarter Summit League Athletes of the Month for March

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota forward Hannah Sjerven earned her second consecutive Summit League TicketSmarter Athlete of the Month, while North Dakota State catcher Logan Williams claimed his first, league officials announced Thursday.

Sjerven guided the Coyotes to their third straight Summit League Women’s Basketball Tournament title and to the program’s first Sweet 16 during a March run where she averaged 17.8 ppg and 7.7 rpg, 2.2 spg and 1.0 bpg.

In the NCAA Tournament, she more than held her own against some of the nation’s top players, who are all projected to be first-round WNBA draft picks in the upcoming draft. She averaged 17.7 ppg in three NCAA postseason games, including a 20-point outing in a first-round win over Ole Miss where she went 7-for-7 from the field.

The Rogers, Minn., native earned Summit League All-Tournament Team honors for the fourth straight year, capping the three victories in Sioux Falls with a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in the title-game victory over South Dakota State.

Williams’ bat helped NDSU to an 11-4 record during the month of March, including a 3-0 start to Summit League play. He batted .362 during 11 starts, totaling 17 hits, eight home runs and 22 RBI. He strung together a stretch of seven consecutive games with a home run, falling two shy of the NCAA Division I record.

The Kailua, Hawaii native capped that run by homering in all three games of a Summit League-opening series at Northern Colorado. In the finale, he belted a pair of grand slams, finishing that contest 3-for-5 with three runs and eight RBI, which was his fourth multi-hit game of the month.

Williams had a trio of three-hit contests in March and leads the League with 10 home runs in his first season with the Bison.
