SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- South Dakota State outfielder Henry George and lefthander Cody Carlson swept the latest TicketSmarter #SummitBSB weekly awards for the Jackrabbits, league officials announced Monday.
George and Carlson also helped the Jackrabbits sweep St. Thomas in a league series that secured the program’s spot in the upcoming Summit Baseball Championship in Tulsa, Okla., scheduled for May 25-28.
George, a graduate transfer from Minnesota Duluth, went 7-for-12 against the Tommies with five of those hits going for extra bases. In the series opener, the Jackrabbits’ leadoff hitter went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. He duplicated that stat line in game two, while adding his first home run of the season to go with a double and a triple, falling just a single shy of hitting for the cycle.
He belted the first pitch he saw in game three of the series for a solo home run, extending his hitting streak to a season-best six games. The Woodbury, Minn., native finished the series with five RBI and five runs scored.
Carlson became the first Jackrabbit since 2019 to record a complete-game, nine-inning shutout, limiting the Tommies to a pair of singles, while striking out a career-high eight batters. He did not allow a walk and faced only 31 batters in his team-leading sixth victory of the season.
