Outdoor Track and Field Championships set to start Thursday

The 2022 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships kick off Thursday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –  The 2022 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted Thursday through Saturday at the ONEOK Sports Complex in Tulsa, Okla. This is the second time in league history that the Golden Eagles have hosted the outdoor championships, the first being in 2018.
 
The first day of the championships will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the women’s 10,000-meter. The multi-events will begin at 10 a.m. CT on the first day while the field events start at 2 p.m. CT.

The Summit League turns 40 during the 2021-22 academic year and in honor of the ruby anniversary, the league has a handful of promotions going on during the championship with opportunities for fans to win 80's themed prize packs. Men's Front Runners
  • North Dakota State is looking to earn its 12th straight Summit League Outdoor Championship title.
  • The Jackrabbits were picked to take the title in the league preseason poll by one point over South Dakota and two points ahead of North Dakota State.
  • The Coyotes are coming into the championship ranked No. 12 in the Midwest according to the USTFCCCA regional rankings while the Bison and the Jackrabbits rank 16th and 17th, respectively.
  • Eleven men come into the weekend looking to defend their 2021 outdoor league crowns: North Dakota State’s Josh Samyn (1,500m), Brandon Lewis (long jump) and Benji Phillips (javelin), Oral Roberts’ Joshua Tabla (triple jump), South Dakota’s Demar Francis (400m), Hugo Morvan (110m hurdles), Jessie Sullivan (Discus) and Eerik Haamer (pole vault), South Dakota State’s Joseph Minor-Williams (10,000m) and Reid Pierzinski (400m hurdles) and Western Illinois’ Ackeen Colley (800m).
  • Ten student-athletes rank in the top 50 nationally in their respective events heading into the championship: NDSU’s Trevor Otterdahl (No. 23 - shot put, No. 30 – hammer), Kristoffer Thomsen (No. 26 – shot put) and Kaden Pastian (No. 35 – discus), USD’s Eerik Haamer (No. 11 – pole vault), Marshall Faurot (No. 23 – pole vault), Tre Young (No. 27 – pole vault) and Jessie Sullivan (No. 49 – discus), SDSU’s Reid Pierzinski (No. 35 – 400m hurdles) and Trent Francom (No. 30 – pole vault) and WIU’s Ackeen Colley (No. 44 – 800m).

  • Ten women return and look to repeat as championships in their respective events: North Dakota State’s Jodi Lipp (triple jump), Amanda Anderson (discus) and Kari Wolfe (javelin), South Dakota’s Sara Reifenrath (200m, 400m), Holly Gerberding (400m hurdles), Carly Haring (high jump) and Gen Hiratta (pole vault) and South Dakota State’s Oksana Johnson (800m), Leah Hansen (5,000m, 10,000m) and Annie Wendt (long jump).
  • Fourteen student-athletes enter the championship weekend ranked in the top 50 nationally in their individual events: UND’s Natalie Mohring (No. 44 – discus) and Elise Ulseth (No. 9 – heptathlon, No. 32 – javelin), NDSU’s Kelby Anderson (No. 43 – 5000m), Amanda Anderson (No. 7 – discus), Amy Phillips (No. 12 – hammer) and Kari Wolfe (No. 17 – javelin), ORU’s Gabrielle Gibson (No. 38 – 100m hurdles) and Shalom Olotu (No. 40 – long jump) and USD’s Danii Anglin (No. 30 – high jump), Carly Haring (No. 39 – high jump), Marleen Mulla (No. 8 – pole vault), Jaidyn Garrett (No. 27 – pole vault) and Lydia Knapp (No. 47 – discus, No. 39 - hammer).
