SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State's Derek Hackman was named to the #SummitBSB All-Academic Team for the fourth consecutive season and was one of two repeat honorees on the 2022 squad released Tuesday by league officials. Western Illinois' Derek Botaletto earned the second honor of his career.
Those two were joined by 10 others to make up the 12-member team, which included a league-high four representatives from regular season champion North Dakota State.
The quartet of Bison on the squad were all first-time recipients and included Brock Anderson, Peter Brookshaw, Cade Feeney and Tristen Roehrich.
Botaletto was joined by a pair of his Leatherneck teammates, who landed on the squad for the first times in their career: Jack Carberry and Jace Warkentien.
Omaha and St. Thomas both had a pair of players on the team to round out the dozen honorees. Summit League Player of the Year Mike Boeve represented the Mavericks along with Jack Lombardi, while the Tommies were represented by Sam Kulesa and Graham Laubscher in their first season as a league member.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team's total contests.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's participating members, and voting is conducted by both SIDs and FARs. The teams are made up of nine student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
