SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the second straight week, Denver claimed the TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s and Women’s Peak Performers of the Week awards, League officials announced on Tuesday. Nicolas Herrero Custa earned the men’s honor while Claudia Martinez de Velasco garnered the women’s accolade.
Herrero Cuesta went undefeated in all six of his matches (singles and doubles) in a trio of wins against Metro State, Utah State and Idaho. Against Metro State and Utah State, the Segovia, Spain native started with wins in both No. 2 singles and doubles. He teamed with Anish Sriniketh for a 6-1 doubles win against the Mustangs and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 singles win. The junior registered a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over the Aggies later in the afternoon. Against the Vandals, Herrero Custa captured a 6-3 doubles win with Sriniketh and returned to the No. 1 singles spot for a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win.
Martinez de Velasco fought back for a three-set win at the No. 5 singles spot against Brown’s Addison Ahlstrom, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 and helped the Pioneers capture a 5-2 win. The Madrid, Spain native resumed her role at the No. 2 doubles position, trading breaks early before adding a second break for a 3-1 lead, which eventually became a 5-3 lead, though the match went unfinished.

Men’s Peak Performer of the Week
