SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts outfielder Matt Hogan had a monster week at the plate and earned the TicketSmarter Summit League Baseball Peak Performer of the Week while South Dakota State righthander Jake Goble stood out on the mound, garnering the Peak Pitcher of the Week accolade, League officials announced Monday.
Hogan pieced together an incredible week at the plate, as the South Carolina transfer recorded a .550/.520/1.150 slash line and went 11-for-20 to go along with three home runs, one double, one triple and 18 RBI in five games. For his efforts, Hogan also secured one of the Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week award.
In the weekend series in the League opener against St. Thomas, the Melville, N.Y., native drove in 10 runs on six hits. Hogan drove in at least three RBI in all five games and on Tuesday, he hit his first home run of the week to tie the game at 6-6 in an eventual 9-6 triumph over Tarleton State.
Goble pitched six strong innings, a career high, in his first career start and struck out four on two walks to earn the win against Saint Louis. The sophomore righthander out of Rapid City, S.D., held the Billikens to one unearned run on four hits after Saint Louis entered the contest having won 10 of its last 11 games and averaging 9.3 runs per game in that span.
