TULSA, Okla. – Top-seeded Denver downed fourth-seeded Omaha 4-0 in the first women’s semifinal match of the 2023 Summit League Women’s Tennis Championship Friday afternoon at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.
The Pioneers jumped to an early 1-0 lead over the Mavericks after securing the doubles point. Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Andrea Burguete Beltran started Denver off with a win over Zoe Adkins and Addison Miller, 6-1, on the No. 2 court. Louise Wikander and Caroline Driscoll gave DU the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Keegan VanPelt and Brooke Covington at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Denver pushed its advantage to 2-0 after Caroline Driscoll defeated Addison Miller 6-0, 6-2 on the No. 5 court.
The Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to a 6-1, 6-3 win for DU’s Louise Wikander against Omaha’s VanPelt at the No. 4 position. Denver took care of business with its 17
th straight sweep in the League Championship matches with a 4-0 victory thanks to a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the No. 3 spot for Britt Pursell against Ines Absisan.
With the 4-0 victory, Denver advances to its ninth straight championship match.

Third-seeded North Dakota pulled out a 4-1 win over No. 2 Kansas City in the second semifinal match of the Summit League Women’s Tennis Championship Friday evening. With the win, the Fighting Hawks will be making their first Summit League title match appearance in program history.
The Fighting Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Roos after claiming the doubles point. Nore Heinitz and Jule Schulte defeated Kate Miley and Joana Cardona, 6-0, in the second position of the doubles lineup.
Sapir Sela and Andrea Jansoon clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Sapir Sela and Laura Munoz-Baroja on the No. 1 court.
In singles, North Dakota pushed the lead 2-0 over Kansas City after Heinitz captured a victory over Ana Timofeyeva 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 5 court. The Fighting Hawks made it a 3-0 contest thanks to Nyah Kauders’s 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Michela Xibilia. After Kansas City’s Joana Cardona defeated Jule Schulte 7-5, 6-3 to make it 3-1 UND, Angela Georgieva ended the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kansas City’s Eva Kresovic for a 4-1 final.
