#SummitBSB Weekly Notebook: No. 11

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Last week was vital for mutiple League squads as the standings moved quite a bit with North Dakota State snapping Oral Roberts' unbeaten streak in Legue action and South Dakota State sweeping St. Thomas. The Jackrabbits have also won seven straight League games and have been led by the bat of Ryan McDonald, who hit his League-leading 17th home run of the season in a 8-3 victory against Nebraska.

The Action continues this week beginning with the Tommies hosting Omaha on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE BISON (12-26, 7-5 SL) | @ndsubaseball

NDSU ended Oral Roberts’ undefeated streak in League play at 13 straight thanks to a 4-2 win in game two ... The Bison scored two runs in the eighth inning to break the 2-2 tie ... Tristen Roehrich tossed five strikeouts over 6.2 innings while holding the League’s top hitting team to a .174 batting average ... For the week, James Dunlap registered a team-best .417 batting average to go along  with a .667 slugging mark and .417 on-base percentage ... The junior infielder connected on a team-best five hits in 12 at-bats, including a home run ... The Bison picked up a non-league win against Big Ten-foe Minnesota as NDSU totaled nine hits against the Gophers ... Shortstop Peter Brookshaw led way, posting a game-high three RBI with two hits and two runs ... Max Loven made his 54th career start on the mound to set the NDSU program record for games started by a pitcher ... He registered two strikeouts with one walk over 2.0 innings of work.

After splitting the first two games of its series with Western Illinois, Northern Colorado won the rubber match, 8-4, and jumped to fourth in the League standings after beginning last week in sixth place ... In game three, Trey Cruz went 5.1 innings, scattering seven hits and three unearned runs to pick up his first victory as a Bear ... The Bears notched eight hits and drew eight walks in the victory ... Caden Wagner led the way going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks ... The Bears captured a win in the opening game of the series thanks to a pair of home runs from Jackson Meier, including the go-ahead home run in the third inning ... The Bears will take a week off from League competition and play a non-League game at Air Force on Wednesday.

The Mavericks took a week off from League play and hosted Lindenwood for a trio of games, winning all three contests ... In the series, Eddie Satisky went 4-for-8 and reached base seven times ... He totaled five RBI and scored three runs, including a two-run RBI double in game one and a three-run homer in the finale ... On the mound, Preston Tenney tossed a seven-inning, complete-game shutout in game one and only needed 77 pitches while striking out seven batters ... In a loss to Nebraska, Matt Goetzmann, Haiden Hunt and Mike Boeve all notched a pair of hits, while Goetzmann and Devin Hurdle both extended their hitting streaks to 10 straight games.... Boeve ranks fifth in the nation with a .548 on-base percentage and the third baseman ranks fourth in League action with a .425 batting average ... Omaha returns to League play at St. Thomas this weekend.

The Golden Eagles, who were the last team in the nation to remain unbeaten in conference play, fell to North Dakota State in the second game of their series, however, they were able to claim their fifth-straight series win by taking games one and three ... Righthander Jakob Hall delivered his second-consecutive scoreless start in the opener as the sophomore struck out seven Bison batters over six innings of work ...  The quality start was the seventh of the year for Hall and he  has been the starter for two of ORU’s three shutouts this season ... Cade Denton was recently named to the Midseason Watch List for the 18th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball ... Denton holds a 1.40 ERA to go along nine saves, which ranks sixth nationally ... Jonah Cox, who was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Baseball Peak Performer of the Week, was added to the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award (BBNCSA) Midseason Watchlist ... The junior leads the country in hits (73) and ranks inside the top 10 in batting average (.432), hits per game (1.8) and triples (6).

The Tommies were swept at South Dakota State and scored five or more runs in a game for the first time in two weeks as they fell to the Jackrabbits, 8-5, in game one ... In that game, Ben Taxdahl belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning, while Dylan O’Connell went 2-for-5 with two RBI ... Kolby Gartner made his seventh start of the season for the Tommies and retired nine of the 10 batters he faced between the third and sixth innings and ended his day with five strikeouts ... St. Thomas faced in-state foe Minnesota and scored four runs off of Gophers’ pitcers ... The Tommies registered an early lead thanks to a three-run second inning and in total, six different players for UST recorded a hit ... The Tommies host Omaha for a three-game Summit League set this weekend.

The Jackrabbits are winners of 11 straight games and swept their second straight League series by taking all three games from St. Thomas ... The last time a Jackrabbit squad won 10 or more games in a row was during the 2011 season ... SDSU outscored St. Thomas 17-6 and ended a 13-game losing streak against Nebraska with an 8-3 victory Wednesday ... It was the first win in the series for the Jacks since 1971 ... Against St. Thomas, Drew Beazley went 3-for-4 with the first multi-homer game of his career in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader ... Against the Cornhuskers, freshman Will Kent fired 5.2 innings of scoreless work, scattering  four hits to record his second win of the season ...  Ryan McDonald belted his team and League-leading 17th home run of the season and Jess Bellows tied a single-game career high with four RBI.

Jack Bell made three appearances out of the bullpen last weekend and picked up his third save of the season in a game-two victory against Northern Colorado ... Bell got the last five outs in the 5-4 victory ... The Leathernecks dropped the three-game series to UNC, but in their victory, tallied 10 hits as a team with eight out of their nine players collecting hits ... In game one, Bell pitched four scoreless innings and struck out three Bears ... He lowered his ERA from 5.14 to 4.78, while keeping Summit League hitters to a .154 batting average against him ... Against Saint Louis, Western Illinois got an early 5-0 lead before the Billikens returned eight unanswered runs to pick up a mid-week win ... Nick Mitchell led the team in hits going 2-for-4 ... Jake Allgeyer and Brian Erbe each had an RBI.
