SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha righthander Preston Tenney and Oral Roberts outfielder Matt Hogan captured the latest TicketSmarter Summit League baseball weekly honors. Tenney was named the Peak Pitcher of the Week, while Cox garnered the Peak Performer of the Week accolade, League officials announced Monday.
Tenney tossed the first complete game shutout of the season by a Summit League pitcher in Omaha’s 6-0 win over Northern Colorado in game two of a series the Mavericks would sweep from the Bears.
The Parker Colo., native struck out eight and allowed only two hits, while not walking a batter as he won his third straight start. He retired 10 straight Bears during one stretch and retired the side in order in six of his nine innings.
Hogan batted .500 (6-or-12) during a 4-0 week for the Golden Eagles, which included a three-game sweep of Western Illinois in Summit League play. The ORU rightfielder hit safely and had at least one RBI in all four victories. He now leads the League in home runs with 10 and RBI with 42.
Against the Leathernecks, Hogan went 5-for-8 with four of those hits going for extra bases as he became the first Summit League player with double-digit home runs this season. He homered in games one and two and doubled in games two and three, while driving in seven during the series.
