SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League officials announced the 2022-23 Men's and Women's Golf Academic All-League Teams Tuesday, recognizing those student-athletes that excelled both on the course and in the classroom this season.
WOMEN'S TEAM
Denver led the way with a trio of honorees on the women’s team made up of seven golfers. Seniors Anna Zanusso (Finance, 3.90) and Anna Krekling (Finance, 3.89), who were both repeat honorees, were joined by DU sophomore Clara Gestsdottir (Business Analytics, 3.90).
The South Dakota duo of Danica Badura (Kinesiology and Sport Management, 3.96) and Akari Hayashi (Art, 3.84), North Dakota State’s Catherine Monty (3.96, Political Science) and North Dakota’s Carrie Carpenter (Mechanical Engineering, 4.0) rounded out the squad.
Zanusso landed on the all-academic team for the third time in her career, while Krekling earned her second honor. Those two also finished one-two at the Summit League Championship with Krekling earning Championship MVP honors after setting single-round and 54-hole scoring records.
Zanusso shared runner-up honors with Badura as those two both posted scores of 213 (E).
Hayashi was a First Team All-League selection, picking up her first collegiate win at the Ozark National Invitational and also tied for ninth at the League Championship.
Monty secured All-Tournament Team honors after tying for fifth at the League Championship, which included a career-low round of 67 (-4) in round two. Carpenter competed in all eight events for the Fighting Hawks and was the inaugural recipient of the Women’s Golf Scholar of the Championship Award presented by JLG Architects.
MEN'S TEAM
The men's all-academic team was made up of one repeat honoree in Denver's Carson Griggs along with four first-time recipients. The honor is the fourth of his standout career as Griggs (Communication Management, 4.0) earned First Team All-League honors and finished runner-up at the League Championship for the second consecutive season.
Griggs was joined on the men’s squad by Oral Roberts junior Jackson Drake (History, 4.0), Western Illinois graduate student Parker Govern (Computer Science, 4.0), St. Thomas senior Matthew Raab (Financial Management, 3.91), and North Dakota sophomore Erik Stoxen (Commercial Aviation, 4.0).
Drake was the inaugural Men’s Golf Scholar of the Championship where he tied for 25
th. Govern posted a pair of top-12 finishes during his final collegiate season, Raab helped the Tommies to a trio of team titles during the regular season and Stoxen was the top Fighting Hawk finisher at the League Championship, tying for 14
th.
CRITERIA
Student-athletes are nominated by their respective sports information directors (SIDs) and thenvoted on by a panel composed of faculty athletics representatives from each university and SIDs.
In order to be considered for the academic all-league golf team, a student-athlete: must have at least a 3.3 cumulative career grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale); must have completed at least one full academic year (two semesters, three quarters) at the current institution; and must have participated in 50 percent of their team's completed competitions.
