SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver’s Marvin Schaber and Andrea Burguete Beltran swept the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s and Women’s Peak Performers of the Week honors, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Schaber had the clinching wins for the Pioneers in both his singles and doubles matches to help get DU to a 4-3 win at New Mexico and continue the Pioneers' unbeaten start to the season. After the teams split the first two doubles matches, Schaber and his partner Anish Sriniketh clinched the doubles point for DU in a tiebreak in the No. 2 slot, 7-6 (4).
In singles, the Bad Krozingen, Germany native he moved up to No. 2 for just the second time this year and clinched the dual in Denver's favor with a straight-sets win, 6-4, 7-6 (6). He extended his own unbeaten streak in singles to 12, becoming his eighth victory in straight sets this year.
Burguete Beltran won all four of her matches to help give DU two more Summit League wins on the weekend. At No. 1 doubles, she won both of her matches at 6-2, her fourth and fifth doubles matches won while dropping two or fewer games this year.
The Burriana, Spain native won both of her No. 1 singles matches in straight sets and each by nearly identical scorelines. Against South Dakota, her 6-3, 6-4 win put DU within a point of clinching the dual and at Omaha, she added another 6-2, 6-4 win to put DU up 5-0 on the day.
