The Pioneers defeat Drake 4-0 to take home championship trophy

DES MOINES, Iowa – The top-seeded Denver Pioneers captured their sixth Summit League men’s title and extended its program best start to 23-0 Saturday afternoon after they defeated second-seeded Drake in a 4-0 match at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
  Denver took a 1-0 advantage after picking up two wins in the doubles action. After Drake’s duo of Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic defeated Denver’s Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and Rikuto Yamaguchi, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot, the Pioneers came back to win on three and two.
 
Raffaello Papajcik and Anish Srinketh bested Drake’s Jeremy Schifris and Olle Sonesson Lidholt, 6-4, at the third position, followed by Marvin Schaber and Daniel Sancho Arbizu clinching the doubles point at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3 win against the Bulldogs’ Matt Clegg and Markus Bolin.
 
In singles action, Denver’s Charlie Miller gave the Pioneers their second point with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Clegg at the No. 5 position. Srinketh earned the Pioneers a point at the No. 4 spot with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Drake’s Bolin.
 
Schaber of Denver clinched the match at 4-0 thanks to a 6-4, 6-3 win against Drake’s Matic.
