SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Northern Colorado infielder Kai Wagner, St. Thomas first baseman Max Nyrop, and Omaha righthander Harrison Kreiling captured the final TicketSmarter Summit League Baseball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week awards, League officials announced Monday. Wagner and Nyrop, who shared the Peak Performer honor, earned the second weekly honors of their respective careers, while Kreiling earned his second his career.
Wagner hit .538 against North Dakota State, helping the Bears win the series 2-1 and advance to their first-ever Summit League Tournament. The Parker, Colo., native registered at least two hits in each game, with three in the finale, including two home runs.
He tallied two hits in the opener with a double, scored six runs and drove in seven more. With the strong weekend, he heads into the tournament with the best batting average in the league (.360), while his slugging percentage ranks fourth (.620) and his OPS ranks third (1.048).
Nyrop was a key player in the Tommies’ big weekend against Oral Roberts where he recorded three home runs, including a grand slam. The Alameda, Calif., native totaled seven RBI, four runs scored and finished 6-for-10 on the weekend.
After Nyrop belted a grand slam in game two of the series, he would go on to hit the go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning. His team-leading nine home runs was his fifth in five games.
Kreiling threw 5.2 scoreless innings on 81 pitches in a series-clinching win at South Dakota State. He also struck out nine batters without walking a single one. The Omaha, Neb., native started the day by striking out the side on 11 pitches (10 strikes). Additionally, Kreiling posted a trio of 1-2-3 innings.
