DU’s Sancho Arbizu, UND’s Pineda named season’s first Kwik Star #SummitTEN weekly honorees

Denver, North Dakota garnered season’s first peak performer awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver’s Daniel Sancho Arbizu and North Dakota’s Andrea Pineda put together impressive performances to help their respective teams finish undefeated in the opening weekend of the spring season. Their performances earned them the season’s first Kwik Star Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Peak Performer of the Week honors, League officials released Tuesday.
 
Sancho Arbizu opened the spring season with a perfect 3-0 singles record at the top spot in the lineup in all three matches. He started opening weekend with a 6-2, 6-0 win against UC Davis. He then carried the momentum into his match against Air Force coming out on top with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Sancho Arbizu closed the weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Montana State.
 
In doubles action, Sancho Arbizu and partner Theo Coats won all three matches posting scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-3, respectively.
 
Pineda dominated during the opening weekend of the spring season going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to help North Dakota pick up a pair of wins over Eastern Illinois (6-1) and Lindenwood (7-0).
 
In the No. 1 position in the singles lineup for all her matches, Pineda opened the weekend with a match-clinching victory over EIU after posting a 6-2, 6-1 win. She then went on to push the advantage to 6-0 against Lindenwood with a 7-5, 6-0 win on her court.
 
At the No. 3 court in doubles, she grabbed a pair of 6-1 wins against both EIU and LU to help the Fighting Hawks go perfect in doubles on the weekend.
