Jackrabbit Men Extend Dynasty; Fighting Hawk Women Capture First #SummitXC Title

ASHLAND, NEB. – The South Dakota State Jackrabbit men captured their 10th consecutive team title, marking a decade of dominance, while the North Dakota Fighting Hawk women secured their first-ever team championship Saturday at Mahoney State Park’s Cross Country Course in Ashland, Nebraska.

Top Performers
South Dakota State senior Cody Larson claimed his first men’s individual crown and the Championship MVP honor with a Summit League record time of 23:15.59. Defending champion and previous record holder, Abraham Chelangam of Oral Roberts, also surpassed his previous record (23:41.43), finishing second in 23:22.78.
 
Casey Poppler of St. Thomas became the program’s first men’s athlete to earn Newcomer of the Championship, placing 15th overall in his Summit League debut with a time of 24:31.74.
 
The top four finishers in the women’s race finished under the meet record, led by North Dakota senior Jadyn Keeler. Keeler delivered a commanding performance, shattering the meet record by more than a minute with a time of 19:21.08 to capture both the individual title and Championship MVP award. Her mark eclipsed the previous record of 20:32.92, set in 2018 by Purdue Fort Wayne’s Emma Rafuse.
 
Meghan Ford of South Dakota State finished second in 20:00.63, followed closely by North Dakota State’s Reagan Baesler (20:02.24) and North Dakota’s Shewaye Johnson (20:25.43).
 
Marie-Louise Jorgensen, a true freshman from North Dakota, earned Newcomer of the Championship honors after placing fifth in 20:45.37, becoming the first Fighting Hawk since Cornelia Wohlfahrt in 2020 to receive the award.

Notables
  • Larson became the ninth Jackrabbit to earn the men’s individual title and Championship MVP honor, following Carson Noecker in 2023.
  • Larson and Chelangam both surpassed the previous meet record (23:41.43), with four total runners breaking the 24-minute barrier.
  • North Dakota State’s Ethan Moe and North Dakota’s Matej Hrebacka moved up from the second team last year to earn first-team honors.
  • Keeler’s record-setting time of 19:21.08 was more than a minute faster than the previous women’s mark.
  • Baesler and Ford were the only women to repeat as All-Summit League First Team honorees this season.
