SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota’s Tom Scott and South Dakota State’s Rod DeHaven were voted the 2025 Summit League Cross Country Coaches of the Year, League officials unveiled Monday. The award recipients were selected by a vote from the League’s head coaches based on the respective teams performances throughout the 2025 cross country season.
Scott garnered the first Coach of the Year honor in program history after leading the Fighting Hawk women to the first conference championship since UND joined the Summit League. The Fighting Hawks’ success this season was highlighted by graduate Jadyn Keeler, who shattered the Summit League Championship record with a time of 19:21.1.
North Dakota captured four team titles throughout the 2025 season, starting strong with wins at the Ron Pynn Classic and Dragon Twilight, followed by victories at the Jimmie Invitational and the Summit League Championship this past Saturday.
Keeler also recorded four individual victories this season and was named the NCAA Women’s National Athlete of the Week on September 22. She ran the eighth-fastest time in the NCAA this year at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, placing third with a personal best of 19:08.2.
For the fourteenth time in program history, DeHaven led the Jackrabbits to the Summit League Men’s Cross Country Championship title, earning the Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honor in the process.
The SDSU men claimed their league-record tenth consecutive championship and celebrated their ninth Championship MVP as Cody Larson crossed the finish line first with a championship-record time of 23:15.6.
Earlier in the season, DeHaven’s squad turned in a strong fourth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational, with all five scoring runners placing in the top 30. Larson once again led the team, taking second place in 24:56.4. The Jackrabbits also dominated the Augustana Twilight, finishing first with a perfect team score of 15.
Both teams will head to the 2025 NCAA Midwest Regional set for Friday, Nov. 14 in Stillwater, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma State at the OSU Cross Country Course. The Fighting Hawks and Jackrabbits will be vying for a bid to the NCAA championship meet Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri.
