Men's Swimming and Diving 3/15/2025 10:02:00 PM South Dakota State Athletics Veritin, SDSU men wrap up strong showing at NIC OCALA, Fla. — Cody Vertin recorded his second eighth-place finish in an individual event final as the South Dakota State men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its season Saturday at the National Invitational Championship. A sophomore from Brookings, Vertin clocked a time of 1 minute, 58.82 seconds during the A final Saturday night. He moved up two spots from his showing in the morning prelims and trimmed a full second off his qualifying time. Vertin also placed eighth in the 400 individual medley at the NIC meet on Friday and posted an 11th-place effort in the 200 IM during competition on Thursday. To close out the meet, the Jackrabbits' 400 freestyle relay team of Zavier Kranz, Austin Smith, Denilson Cyprianos and Sam Johnson placed 16th out of 24 teams with a time of 2:59.79. Smith and Cyprianos narrowly missed qualifying for finals during the Saturday morning prelims. Smith was the first alternate in the 200 butterfly after posting the 21st-fastest time at 1:49.99, while Cyprianos was second alternate in the 200 backstroke after finishing 22nd in 1:48.26. Johnson also competed as an individual Saturday morning, clocking a time of 45.45 seconds in the 100 freestyle to rank 29th in the field. The five-member Jackrabbit contingent ended the three-day competition with a 20th-place showing in the team standings after tallying 135 points. -GoJacks.com-
