Omaha's Bishop, UST's Kruzan earn Kwik Star #SummitBSB weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha first baseman Tyler Bishop and St. Thomas righthander Marcus Kruzan claimed the latest Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors, League officials announced Monday. Bishop, who garnered the peak performer of the week nod, and Kruzan, who earned the pitching accolade, each collected their first career weekly honors.

Bishop fueled a three-game sweep of Northern Colorado, snapping a six-game losing streak to open Summit play by going 5-for-13 (.385) with eight runs and seven RBI against the Bears. He finished the series with four extra-base hits and none were bigger than his two-run, walk-off homer in the opener that saw Omaha erase a 9-7 deficit going into its last at-bat. The Lincoln, Neb., native finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

In game two of the series, Bishop added a two-run double and scored three times in a 14-10 victory. He capped his weekend by going 2-for-5 in the finale, scoring the game-winning run on a walk-off walk that gave the Mavericks a series sweep.

Kruzan won his third straight Summit League start, limiting Oral Roberts to just two earned runs and five hits in the Tommies’ 3-2 victory in game two of a Friday doubleheader. The Highbridge, Wis., native struck out a career-high seven Golden Eagles as he improved to 4-0 on the campaign and logged his second consecutive quality start in his six-inning performance.
