SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State, Oral Roberts, and South Dakota were represented in the second Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week accolades, League officials released Tuesday. ORU’s Lukundo Kapambalala and NDSU’s Zach McGlynn took home the honors on the men’s side while the USD duo Averi Schmeichel and Lydia Knapp swept the honors on the women’s side.
Kapambalala clocked a career best time in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the ORU Invitational. The Golden Eagle sophomore won the 100 with a time of 10.47 and the 200 with a time of 21.27. The Lusaka, Zambia native’s sprints are tops in the Summit League this season.
McGlynn won the decathlon at the Aztec Invitational with 7,697 points, breaking a 20-year-old North Dakota State record in the process. The Bison senior leads the Summit League and the NCAA after recording a time of 14.78 in the 110 hurdles, 4:53.23 in the 1500m, 50.82 in the 400, 10.97 in the 100, a distance of 129-6” in the discus, 141-3” in the javelin, 43-9.75” in the shot-put, 24-0.75” in the long jump, cleared the bar at16-08.75” in the pole vault and 6-11.5” in the high jump.
Schmeichel crossed the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.64 seconds at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The Coyote senior placed 21
st in a loaded field to take over the top time in the Summit League. The Hartford, S.D. native also clocked a time of 13.8 in the 100 meter hudles to sit second in the Summit League and ran a leg of the league leading 4x400 meter relay that took the tape in 3:47.19.
Knapp placed third in the hammer throw after tossing a personal record of 208-5” at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The Coyote senior followed that performance with a third place finish in the discus throwing 172-2” to sit atop the Summit League. The Linden, Iowa native ranks 15
th in the NCAA in the hammer throw this season.
