ORU's Coil, SDSU's Driessen earn Kwik Star #SummitBSB weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts designated hitter Owen Coil and South Dakota State righthander Dylan Driessen secured the latest Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors, League officials announced Monday. Coil, who claimed the peak performer of the week honor, and Driessen, who garnered the pitching accolade, each received the weekly honors for the first time in their respective careers.

Coil put together the best four-game stretch of his maiden collegiate season, going 11-for-19 (.579) and four multi-hit games in a 3-1 week for the Golden Eagles. After opening his week with a 2-for-5 effort in a 10-6 road win at Oklahoma State, the freshman went 9-for-14 (.643) as ORU racked up its second straight Summit League series win.

In game one, the Stillwater, Okla., native went 2-for-4 and scored a season-high three runs as ORU rallied for a 9-5 victory. In the series-clinching 6-4 victory in game two, Coil capped a four-run sixth frame with his second home run of the series and fifth in league play. He finished with the first three-hit game of his career.

Coil capped the weekend with the first four-hit game of his career as he singled in his first four plate appearances.

Driessen helped South Dakota State to the program’s first Summit series win of the season by tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless relief in a 7-5 victory in the opener. The Omaha, Neb., native did not yield a hit and equaled his season high with six strikeouts as the Jacks’ held on for a 7-5 victory.

For Driessen, it marked the second time in four SDSU league wins that he earned a three-plus inning save.
