Denver, Oral Roberts secure season’s final Kwik Star #SummitTEN weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Pioneers and Golden Eagles capped the regular season with standout performances, earning the final Kwik Star Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Peak Performer of the Week awards, league officials announced Tuesday.
 
In singles play, Denver’s Rikuto Yamaguchi and Oral Roberts’ Chara Grammatikaki claimed the last honors of the season.
 
On the doubles side, the Pioneer duo of Daniel Sancho Arbizu and Theo Coats took the men’s accolade, while Denver’s Louise Wikander and Claudia Martinez de Velasco secured recognition for the women.
 
MEN’S TENNIS SINGLE PEAK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Rikuto Yamaguchi, Denver (Sr)
  • Garnered his second career peak performer award, second of the season.
  • Helped Denver secure the Summit League regular season title with dominant wins over Drake (7-0) and North Dakota (5-0).
  • Went unbeaten on the No. 3 singles court, dropping no more than five games in either match.
  • Opened the week with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Drake’s Aaron Dawson.
  • Closed with a 6-1, 6-2 win against North Dakota’s Leo Galliano.
MEN’S TENNIS DOUBLES PEAK TEAM OF THE WEEK
Daniel Sancho Arbizu (Sr) & Theo Coats (Fr), Denver
  • Sancho Arbizu collected his eighth career peak performer award, fourth of the season.
  • Coats garnered the third peak performer honor of his career, third of the season.
  • Went undefeated on the No. 2 doubles court in matchups against Drake and North Dakota.
  • Posted a 6-3 win over Drake’s Dawson and Adan Tarquino.
  • Bested UND’s Andrew Hayduke II and Ethan Terry, 6-4.
  • Both their victories clinched the doubles point for Denver.
WOMEN’S TENNIS SINGLES PEAK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Chara Grammatikaki, Oral Roberts (Sr)
  • Received the second weekly honor of her career, second of the season.
  • Went 2-0 on the No. 2 singles court, playing a pivotal role in Oral Roberts’ victories over St. Thomas (4-3) and Omaha (5-2).
  • Secured the Golden Eagles the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Summit League Women’s Tennis Championship.
  • Battled back for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over St. Thomas’ Caroline Lindahl.
  • Outlasted Omaha’s Khayli Buckels in a tight contest, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).

  • Martinez de Velasco captured the fourth peak performer accolade of her career, second of the season.
  • Wikander collected her fourth career peak performer of the week honor, second of the season.
  • Won both No. 2 doubles matches in the final weekend of the regular season.
  • Helped Denver claim the Summit League regular season title with victories over South Dakota (4-3) and North Dakota (5-2).
  • Opened with a 6-4 win over South Dakota’s Bea Havlickova and Grace Chadick
  • Closed with a 6-2 triumph against North Dakota’s Nore Heinitz and Jule Schulte.
