KC, USD, and SDSU earn #SummitOTF Kwik Star weekly accolades

Kansas City, South Dakota and South Dakota State were represented in the fourth weekly honor of the year

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –  Kansas City, South Dakota, and South Dakota State were represented in the fourth Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week accolades, League officials released Tuesday. KC’s Tory Lanham, USD’s Joe Lynch and SDSU’s Caiden Fredrick took home the honors on the men’s side while the Coyote duo of Averi Schmeichel and Marleen Mülla swept the honors on the women’s side.

Lanham clocked a career best time in the 200-meter dash at the KT Woodman Classic. The Roo sophomore finished second with a time of 20.59. The Kansas City Mo., native is tied for 15th in the NCAA and sits at the top of the Summit League this season. Lanham also recorded a career best in the 100-meter dash after running a wind aided 10.43 to finish eighth. 

Lynch won the high jump at the South Dakota Challenge with a season best leap of 7-0.50”.  The Coyote senior took over first place in the Summit League after becoming the first conference performer to clear seven feet in the high jump during the outdoor season. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native is tied for 20th in the NCAA this season.
Fredrick, who shares the field honor with Lynch, won the discus competition at the South Dakota Challenge with a career best toss of 187-0”.  The Jackrabbit sophomore took over first place in the Summit League and sits 37th in the NCAA. The Papillion, Neb., native also placed third in the shot-put with a toss of 53-5.75” and 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 167-9”.

Schmeichel crossed the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.93  at the South Dakota Challenge. The Coyote senior placed first by nearly four seconds and ranks first in the Summit League this season. The Hartford, S.D., native ran a wind aided 13.38 in the 100-meter hurdles to win the South Dakota Challenge by over half a second. 

Mülla claimed the pole vault title by nearly a foot at the South Dakota Challenge with a personal record vault of 14-11.5”. The Coyote recorded her best vault since the 2022-2023 indoor season when she went 14-11”. The Rakvere, Estonia native ranks third  in the NCAA in the pole vault this season and reset her own Estonian National Record.
