SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Northern Colorado third baseman Kai Wagner and South Dakota State righthander Caleb Duerr snagged the latest Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors, League officials announced Monday. Wagner, who claimed his third career peak performer honor, and Druer, who earned his first pitching accolade, each received the weekly honors for the first time this season.
Wagner hit safely and had at least one RBI in all three games of the Bears’ 2-1 series win at North Dakota State, finishing with a .400 batting average against the Bison.
In game one, the Paker, Colo., native went 3-for-5 with an RBI as he equaled his season high in hits for the fifth time. Wagner went 2-for-5 in the Bears’ 8-5 win in game two, belting a two-run homer in the third inning.
In the finale, a 6-4 UNC win, Wagner opened the scoring in the first inning with a RBI double as the Bears raced out to a 6-0 lead through five innings.
Duerr put together the best start of his freshman season, logging 6.2 scoreless innings as he combined for a 3-0 shutout-win over league-leading St. Thomas in game two of the Jackrabbits’ series with the Tommies.
The West Fargo, N.D., native scattered six hits and struck out three in the longest outing of his career. It marked his second quality start and victory against St. Thomas this season.
