DU, UNO, UND snag this week’s Kwik Star #SummitTEN peak performer accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Pioneers, Mavericks and Fighting Hawks were each represented in this week’s Kwik Star Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Peak Performer of the Week awards, league officials unveil Tuesday.
 
For singles, Denver’s Ryoma Mishiro and North Dakota’s Jule Schulte garnered the weekly honors.
 
In doubles action, Omaha’s duo of Mikahil Korkunov and Bryan Kuntz earned the honor for the second consecutive week while UND’s Schulte and Nore Heinitz picked up the award on the women’s side.
 
MEN’S TENNIS SINGLE PEAK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Ryoma Mishiro, Denver (Jr)
  • Garnered his second career peak performer award, first of the season.
  • Helped Denver to a pair of wins over No. 65 New Mexico (4-3) and Omaha (6-1).
  • Went 2-0 on the weekend in singles on the No. 5 court.
  • Came from down a set to clinch the match for the Pioneers with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
  • Earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Omaha’s Pavan Uppa.
Also nominated: Ange-Kevin Koua (North Dakota), Christian Trevey (Omaha)
 
MEN’S TENNIS DOUBLES PEAK TEAM OF THE WEEK
Mikhail Korkunov (Sr) & Bryan Kuntz (Sr), Omaha
  • The duo secured the second consecutive weekly honor.
  • Korkunov collected the third weekly accolade of his career, second of the season.
  • Kuntz captured his third career peak performer honor, third of the season.
  • Went 2-0 on the No. 1 doubles court against Air Force (L, 4-3) and Denver (L, 4-3).
  • Bested Air Force’s No. 1 doubles duo 6-3.
  • Erased a 3-1 deficit to pick up a 6-3 win over Denver’s Connor Robb-Wilcox and Rikuto Yamaguchi.

WOMEN’S TENNIS SINGLES PEAK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Jule Schulte, North Dakota (Jr)
  • Received the second weekly honor of her career, second of the season.
  • Notched a pair of victories in a 2-0 weekend for North Dakota.
  • On the No. 3 court, recorded a win (7-6, 6-3) to break a 2-2 tie and give UND a 3-2 lead in an eventual 4-3 win over South Dakota.
  • In the 7-0 win over Minnesota State, moved up to the No. 2 court and picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win to clinch the win over the Mavericks.
  • Her singles win over MSU was the 100th of her career, making her the first player at UND to eclipse the mark in three seasons.

WOMEN’S TENNIS DOUBLES PEAK TEAM OF THE WEEK
Jules Schultes (Jr) & Nore Heinitz (Sr), North Dakota
  • Heinitz collected the third peak performer award of her career, second of the season.
  • Went a perfect 2-0 on the No. 2 doubles court in North Dakota’s matches against South Dakota and Minnesota State.
  • Helped UND clinch the doubles point over USD, besting USD’s Grace Chadick and Bea Havlickova, 6-4.
  • Sealed the doubles point for UND against MSU with a 6-1 win.
  • Improved to 4-1 this season against league foes on the doubles courts.
