Tommies sweep latest Kwik Star #SummitBSB weekly awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The St. Thomas duo of Matthew Maulik and Riane Ritter swept the latest Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors, League officials announced Monday. Maulik, who earned the Peak Performer nod, and Ritter, who claimed the Peak Pitcher award, both earned the first weekly honors of their respective careers.

Maulik batted .500 and scored six runs during a 5-0 week for St. Thomas that included two non-conference wins over Milwaukee and a Summit League series sweep of North Dakota State. The Tommies remained on top of the league standings with those three wins as they eye their second straight regular season title.

The Tommies’ third baseman hit safely and scored at least one run in each of his four appearances, including a 5-8 ledger in the weekend sweep of NDSU. He entered game one as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and delivered an RBI single and scored the game-tying run as the Tommies erased a 4-1 deficit with four runs in the frame.

In a 3-1 victory in game two, the St. Michael, Minn., native went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. He doubled in the second inning and came around to score the first run of the game on a Joe Vos single.

He capped his weekend by going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI in a 9-2 victory to clinch the series sweep. It was the fifth three-hit game of the season for Maulik, who hit a solo home run in the fourth and added an RBI double in the seventh.

Ritter continued a torrid stretch that saw him win his fourth straight start. Getting the ball for game two of the series, the freshman righthander surrendered just one hit over seven scoreless innings as the Tommies garnered a 3-1 victory over NDSU.

The Rogers, Minn., native struck out six and one yieled a two-out single to Sam Canton in the bottom of the sixth. He worked around a trio of walks in the third, inducing an inning-ending double play ball to end the threat.

Ritter improved to 5-1 on the season and owns a 0.61 ERA over his last four starts. He has struck out 22 and yielded just two earned runs in 29.1 innings.
