Oral Roberts sweeps final Kwik Star #SummitBSB weekly honors

The Golden Eagles took all four games in road series at SDSU to earn share of regular season title

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts catcher Wailele Kane-Yates and righthander Brenden Asher captured the final Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors, League officials announced Monday. Kane-Yates and Asher both earned the first weekly honors of their respective Golden Eagle careers.

Kane-Yates hit .467 with four home runs, eight RBI and also drew five walks during a four-game sweep of South Dakota State that earned a share of Oral Roberts’ 21st Summit League regular season title. He hit safely in all five games for ORU last week to push his overall average .333 and league-play clip to .386.

In Thursday’s doubleheader, the Golden Eagle junior homered twice in each victory to push his team-leading total in that category to 11, which is second most among Summit hitters.

Kane-Yates went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and three runs scored in ORU’s game-three victory, then added a double and a run in the finale. He finished the week with an 1.841 OPS.

Asher delivered his third quality start in his last four outings during the series finale at SDSU, helping ORU secure a share of the regular season title. The freshman yielded just one earned run on five hits, while striking out four Jackrabbits over six innings of work.
