DU Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 4 Oklahoma in NCAA First Round

Denver ends season with 0-4 loss at No. 4-ranked/No. 6-seeded OU on Friday

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Denver women's tennis team (13-10, 6-0 Summit) ended its 2025 campaign with a 0-4 loss at No. 4-ranked Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship on Friday.

OU, the region's host and No. 6 national seed, went ahead, 1-0, after doubles before winning the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 singles matches to clinch the win over Denver – though the Pioneers put up fights throughout the day.

Doubles:
Early breaks at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles proved to be critical in Oklahoma winning the first point of the day. Denver's top team of senior Andrea Burguete Beltran and junior Marley Lambert responded to a 0-3 deficit with a break back to get to 2-3 but went on to drop the match, giving the doubles point to the Sooners.

At No. 2 doubles, DU juniors Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander started off strong with an immediate break to begin play and held leads at 3-1 and 4-2. The Pioneers were leading, 4-3, when OU clinched the point on their other two courts.

Singles:
The Sooners got off to quick starts with wins in all six first sets, though Denver put up a fight up and down the lineup. Lambert, junior Hana Becirovic Novak and freshman Natálie Cinková all started comebacks after going down early breaks in their matches with all three battling back within a game of their opponents late in the opening frames.

After going down a set at No. 2 singles, Wikander responded with a strong start to the second set. The junior broke in her second return game and gathered a three-game lead midway through the set, though she was unable to see it through as the match was abandoned with her leading, 4-3.

Burguete Beltran, too, showed fight in her match on court one after dropping the first set, keeping things on serve through the first four games of the second set when the dual was clinched, leaving what would be her final collegiate match unfinished.
