SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State and South Dakota were represented in the seventh Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week accolades, League officials released Tuesday. The USD duo of Mason Sindelar and Tre Young took home the honors on the men’s side while USD’s Averi Schmeichel and NDSU’s Nyariek Kur earned the honors on the women’s side.
Sindelar set the South Dakota school record in the 800-meter at the USD Tune Up running a career best 1:48.56. The Coyote redshirt-junior leads the Summit League and now ranks 41
st in the West Region in the event. The Pierce, Neb., native also won the 1500-meter clocking a career best 3:44.21. Both of these marks set the Lillibridge Track Complex facility record.
Young won the pole vault at the USD Tune Up with a career best leap of 17-10.5”. The Coyote senior sits atop the Summit League standings and ranks 10
th in the NCAA West regional. The Toledo, Ohio, native is tied for 18
th in the NCAA this season.
Schmeichel crossed the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 57.98 at the USD Tune Up. The Coyote senior ranks first in the Summit League this season and 39
th in the NCAA. The Hartford, S.D., native finished first in the 100-meter hurdles as well with a time of 13.74 and sixth in the open 200 with a career best time of 24.65. She also ran a leg of the Coyotes 4x100 relay.
Kur claimed the triple jump title at the USD Tune up with a personal record leap of 42-0.75”. The Bison freshman ranks first in the summit league and 60
th in the NCAA. The Sioux Falls, S.D., also native finished second in the high jump tying her personal record of 5-08”.
