SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota secured its second consecutive Summit League “Food Fight” title after collecting more than 50,250 pounds of food during the 2024-25 academic year.
“As student-athletes at UND and executive board members of our SAAC, it means so much to see our efforts in the food fight competition make a real impact,” said Brooklyn Brouse and Justin Jelaca, North Dakota SAAC representatives. “Giving back to our community is something we take an immense amount of pride in at UND, and this event gave us a chance to come together for a cause bigger than ourselves. Thanks to the incredible support from Simplot, we were able to make a meaningful difference in the fight against food insecurity.”
Throughout the academic year, each of the League’s nine member institutions designated a two-week window during the spring semester to concentrate their food drive efforts. During that period, the institutions combined to collect nearly 153,800 pounds, totaling approximately 128,000 meals to local communities.
South Dakota State finished as the runner-up for the second straight year with 40,103.95 pounds collected. North Dakota State placed third with 18,124.70 total pounds, followed by South Dakota (18,076.20 pounds) and Kansas City (13,045.40 pounds) to round out the top five.
Since the initiative began 17 years ago, Summit League institutions have collected over 1.3 million pounds of food to benefit their local communities.
