#SummitMSOC Weekly Notebook: No. 4

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- All seven Summit League men's soccer squads will be in action this weekend as they continue to prepare for the upcoming conference season. They each have two weeks left on their non-conference schedules before Summit play commences on Sept. 27.

Six of those seven matches will take place Saturday and each Summit squad will be the visitor in matches to take place in New Hampshire, Washington, D.C., Illinois, Omaha and California. UMass, who picked up its fourth win of the campaign earlier in the week on the road at UMass Lowell, will take one of the nation's top-scoring units to New Hampshire to take on a Wildcat squad that had a run of seven-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances snapped last season.

Delaware enters the weekend as one of six Division I squads that started their respecitve campaigns with five-straight wins. The Blue Hens will look to extend their best start to a season since 2014 with a match at Howard. St. Thomas and Omaha both have road matches in the state of Illinois as the Tommies face Northern Illinois and the Mavericks have a tilt against Bradley.

Oral Roberts will be the third straight Summit League-foe to face Creighton as the Bluejays knocked off Denver (2-0) and Omaha (3-2) in their previous two matches.

Kansas CIty will cap Saturday's action by getting another crack at taking down a ranked opponent as the Roos travel to (25/16) San Diego to play the Torreros.

Denver is the lone league member with a home match on its docket as the Pioneers are set to play Mercer in an afternoon clash in the Mile High City on the Summit League Network.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
• For the second week in a row, the Kwik Star Offensive Peak Performer was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week. Delaware’s Marius Stenner was recognized this week after UMass midfielder Shane Velez earned that nod in week two.
• Stenner had three goals and an assist in two matches last week to earn the nod. He currently shares the national lead in goals with five others at six total, while his four game-winning goals top all Division I players.
• The Blue Hens extended their season-opening winning streak to five straight with a 2-1 win vs. American Saturday and a 1-0 victory over Penn Tuesday. UD was one of only six  Division I teams to start the season 5-0-0.
• Goalkeeper JoJo Elliott, Jr., matched his season-high in saves vs. the Quakers with five en route to posting the fourth clean sheet of his rookie season. The Blue Hens will try to push their winning streak to six Saturday at Howard.
• Denver bounced back from a 2-0 road loss at Creighton to move back to the .500 mark at 3-3-0 with a 2-1 home win over Cal Poly. Redshirt junior Kyle McGowan tallied his first goal of the season in the 35th minute and David Biggers converted from the penalty spot for the eventual game-winner in the 64th minute.
• After suffering its first defeat of the season to Bryant, 1-0, UMass rebounded with a 3-1 victory over in-state rival UMass Lowell. Defender Aidan Kelly continues to supply scoring from the back line as his fourth goal of the season proved to be the game-winner as he headed home a cross from Matt Cence in the 58th minute.
• Kelly’s four tallies rank second among Summit League players and already matches his career-high total from 22 games during his junior season.
• Omaha dropped the Dodge Street Derby 3-2 against cross-town rival Creighton. The Mavericks, who had scored just two goals in their first four matches, tallied two against the Bluejays but the Big East foe did one better to secure the victory.
• Maguire Perkins’ first collegiate goal equaled things at 1-1 in the 31st minute, while Italo Jenkins’ 61st-minute strike brought the Mavericks back within a goal but that would be the final score of the match for either side.
• Oral Roberts split a trip to the Lone Star State, earning the program’s first win of the campaign at UTRGV with a 2-1 victory before falling 3-1 at Houston Christian.
• The Golden Eagles’ two goals in the win over UTRGV were separated by three minutes as Leonardo Seixas pulled ORU even at 1-1 in the 49th minute and Tweneboa Kodua added the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute.
• St. Thomas jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead at Lindenwood thanks to a 2nd-minute goal from Mathis Guffroy but the Lions would scored five unanswered to hand the Tommies their first loss of the campaign. UST had yielded just two goals in its 2-0-2 start to the campaign.
• The Roos were held off the scoreboard in their previous two matches, dropping their first match of the season in a 1-0 loss at (24/NR) Portland before earning a 0-0 result in a home match vs. Drake.
• KC takes a 2-1-3 ledger into another ranked showdown at (24/16) San Diego on Saturday.
