Omaha, and Denver garnered season’s second peak performer awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha’s Liam Spiers along with the Denver quartet of Theo Coats, Connor Robb-Wilcox, Louise Wikander and Claudia Martinez de Velasco put together impressive performances to collect the second Kwik Star Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Peak Performer of the Week honors, League officials released Tuesday.

Spiers battled his way to an upset win at No. 2 singles over No. 66 Zaid Mashni of Wichita State 3-6, 7-6 (7), 10-6 to earn the Mavericks’ first singles point of the dual season. The Calgary, Alberta native earned the first Peak Performer award of his career.

The Pioneer duo of Coats and Robb-Wilcox earned a win from the No. 2 spot over Texas Techs's Sebastian Abboud and Thomas VanDen Dooren (6-3) to earn the men’s doubles peak team of the week for the first time as a pair. The duo was on serve midway thorugh their match against Montana State when the Pioneers clinched the doubles point leaving their second match of the weekend unfinished.

On the women’s side, Wikander went 1-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to help Denver earn a win over Seattle (6-1). She earned her third individual peak accolade.

Playing from the No. 1 singles for the first time in her career, Wikander opened the weekend with a victory over Seattle’s top player (7-6, 6-2). After trading breaks and saving a set point in the first set, she got to a tiebreaker and put up a 7-2 result. She then turned that momentum into a 5-0 lead in the second set on her way to a 6-2 final score.

At the No. 2 court in doubles, Wikander partnered with Martinez de Velasco, grabbing a win against Seattle (6-2) to go perfect in doubles play and help that duo earn the women’s doubles peak team of the week award for the third time as a pair.
