SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Thomas second baseman Tanner Recchio and North Dakota State righthander Zak Szabo garnered the latest Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors of the 2026 season, League officials announced Tuesday. Both players received the first weekly award of their respective careers.
Recchio hit .421 in a four-game series at Kansas, collecting at least a hit and a run in each game against the Jayhawks. He finished the series 8-for-19 at the plate with six runs, a double and an RBI.
He opened the series going 3-for-5 in each of the first two games and also scored a pair of runs in games one and three for the Tommies.
In the 13-2 victory in the series finale, Recchio had an RBI-single as the Tommies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Szabo did not allow an earned run over two relief appearances last week that spanned 5.2 innings. After giving up an unearned run over 1.1 innings in a mid-week outing at Southern Illinois, the Whitby, Ontario native logged 4.1 innings of scoreless relief in a 5-2 win at perennial SEC-power Vanderbilt.
He combined for seven strikeouts in the two appearances, including five vs. the Commodores. His first came in the fifth inning when he relieved starter Jonah Walker, who had just surrendered a two-run homer that trimmed NDSU’s lead to 3-2.
Szabo fanned two more in the sixth, then went unscathed in the ninth after Vandy produced back-to-back singles to open the frame. The win was the first of the season for the Troy transfer.
