UST trio, USD’s Smith garner first #SummitOTF Kwik Star peak performer accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A trio of St. Thomas student-athletes and South Dakota’s Delaney Smith captured the season’s initial Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week accolades, League officials released Tuesday. The Tommie trio includes Olivia Keller, Sam Hebert and Trever Schirmer as all four honoreers earned the first weekly outdoor awards of their respective carers.

Keller took a pair of top-10 finishes in track events at the Clyde Hart Classic, including a personal-best and program record time of 2:07.38 in the 800-meter run that tops the Summit League outdoor charts. She finished eighth in a highly-competitive field. The Burnsville, Minn., native also finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.96, which is third best among Summit runners.

Smith captured the women’s field honor after placing second at the Wildcat Classic with a throw of 190-01” (57.94m). That mark tops all Summit League performances early in the season. She also had top-10 finishes in the shot put (4th; 42-09.50”, 13.04m) and the discus (8th; 138-04”, 42.16m).

On the men’s side, Hebert clocked personal best times in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the Clyde Hart Classic. His 47.40 in the 400-meter is the top Summit League time of the season as finished eighth in a field of 40 sprinters. The Chippewa Falls, Wis., native also turned in a 22.03 in the 200-meter dash to cap his opening weekend of outdoor competition.

Schermer posted a trio of top-10 finishes in throws events highlighted by a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 165-03.75” (50.39m). The Owatonna, Minn., native also took third in the shot put (52-06.25”; 16.01m) and 10th in the hammer (148-02.75”; 45.18m).

  • Earned first career outdoor award
  • Topped Summit League charts with a discus throw of 165-03.75” (50.39m), which also ranks eighth in the NCAA Midwest
  • Took second in the discus and third in the shot pot for a pair of podium finishes at the Clyde Hart Classic
