SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Thomas lefthander Owen Marsolek and Northern Colorado catcher Sam Pease garnered the latest Kwik Star Summit League Baseball weekly honors, League officials announced Tuesday. Marsolek and Pease both earned the first weekly awards of their respective careers.
Marsolek led the Tommies to their lone win during a weekend series at South Dakota State, logging a season-high 7.2 innings of work, while striking out a career-high 12 Jackrabbits. The Duluth, Minn. native improved to 5-3 on the season after yielding just two earned runs and four hits in the game-two victory.
The Tommie freshman struck out the side in the first and seventh innings and both outs he recorded in the eighth were also via the strike out. His dozen strikeouts were the second most by a Summit League hurler in a game this season.
Pease helped the Bears to a pivotal road series win at North Dakota State, batting .600 against the Bison while scoring five runs and contributing six RBI. The Fort Collins, Colo, native went 2-for-3 and reached base four times in the Bears’ 10-4 victory in game. He also scored twice and drove in two during the win.
After going 1-for-3 in a game-two setback, the junior backstop went 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBI in the finale to inch the Bears closer to a postseason berth. Pease squared the game at 4-4 with a two-run single in the fourth and added a two-run double in the fifth to stretch the lead to 7-4.
