ORU hauls in four #SummitBSB year-end awards

The Golden Eagles earned four of the five individual awards and had five first-team honorees

MINNEAPOLIS – Oral Roberts center fielder Makani Tanaka garnered Summit League Player of the Year honors Tuesday as league officials announced the 2026 All-League baseball teams and individual award winners.

Tanaka led a quartet of Oral Roberts personnel that earned individual awards. He was joined by Pitcher of the Year Jack Hill, Defensive Player of the Year Martell Davis and Coach of the Year Ryan Folmar. North Dakota State freshman Sheamus Ryan was named Newcomer of the Year to round out the individual honorees selected by the league’s six head coaches.

Tanaka’s honor marks the 21st time a Golden Eagle has claimed the league’s highest honor and he is the first since Jonah Cox in 2023. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native led all players with nine home runs in Summit play and was part of a five-way tie for first with 31 RBI.

Tanaka totaled 17 extra-base hits and was second among all players with five triples to also land on the All-League First Team.

Hill earned the top pitching honor coming out of the Oral Roberts bullpen, where he went 5-1 with three saves while posting a 3.08 ERA in league competition. The Edmond, Oklahoma, native had six scoreless outings in his 10 appearances during Summit play to also garner a first-team spot.

Davis, who joined Tanaka and Hill on the first team, started all 28 games at second base for the Golden Eagles and helped spearhead one of the top defenses in the country. The Seminole, Oklahoma, native made only three errors in 130 total chances during conference play to post a .977 fielding percentage. He also shared the league lead with 42 hits.

Folmar led Oral Roberts to the outright regular-season title after the Golden Eagles finished with a 22-6 Summit League record. The all-time wins leader in Summit League history collected his eighth coaching honor during his 12 years leading the program.

Ryan led all Summit hurlers with a 2.02 ERA and struck out 19 in 35.2 innings of league action. He also had a streak of 20 scoreless innings spanning five relief appearances against Summit opponents.

The trio of Golden Eagle individual honorees were joined on the All-League First Team by two more teammates, giving Oral Roberts a league-best five selections. Starting pitcher Easton Teel and catcher Wailele Kane-Yates rounded out the quintet, as both earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season.

Kane-Yates capped the regular season with three home runs and nine RBI in a series win at Northern Colorado. He finished fourth among league hitters with a .378 batting average in conference play, added seven home runs and was among the players tied with 31 RBI.

Teel topped all Summit starters with a 2.72 ERA and recorded 50 strikeouts in 53 innings of work, finishing 3-1 in nine starts.

Runner-up Omaha placed two players on the All-League First Team. Tyler Bishop and Jackson Trout are repeat honorees and switched positions on the squad for their senior campaigns, as Bishop earned the honor as an outfielder this year while Trout garnered the first base spot.

Trout was among the leaders in RBI and added eight home runs and 40 hits during Summit play. Bishop hit .327 in league action and shared the league lead in extra-base hits with South Dakota State’s Nolan Grawe, as the duo collected 18 apiece.

Grawe, the first-team selection at third base, led all players with 12 doubles. He was joined on the first team by fellow Jackrabbit Luke Luskey, who earned the designated hitter distinction. Luskey hit seven home runs and was one of five players who tied for the league lead with 31 RBI.

St. Thomas landed three players on the first team with outfielder Owen Bond, shortstop Adam Puder and utility player Tanner Recchio representing the Tommies. Bond was one of the most improved players in the league, nearly hitting .400 in conference play and leading all players with seven triples.

Puder and Recchio ranked first and second in the league in stolen bases as the duo combined for 38. Recchio totaled 26 steals and also shared the league lead in runs with 28 while finishing second in doubles with 10.

Northern Colorado and North Dakota State each had one player on the first team to round out the 14-man squad. Bears starter Reece Wagner and Bison starter Parker Puetz were both honored for their efforts on the mound.

Wagner went 3-0 in league play with a 4.53 ERA and struck out 50 in a league-high 55.2 innings. Puetz went 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in six starts while striking out 25 in 30.1 innings.

Reigning Summit League Player of the Year Henry Zipay headlined a league-high five Mavericks on the All-League Second Team. Zipay batted .388 with nine doubles and 19 RBI during his senior season.

Omaha’s remaining quartet of second-team selections included utility player Cardel Dick, shortstop Chase Diggins, and starting pitchers Tanner Foertsch and Maddox Meyer. Dick and Diggins both hit .300 during league play.

Oral Roberts had three players on the second team, including shortstop Hudson Ellis and outfielders Cooper Combs and Will Edmunson. Ellis had 17 RBI and nine steals during his first season of Summit action, while Combs and Edmunson repeated as all-league honorees after hitting .317 and .347, respectively.

Northern Colorado catcher Sam Pease led all league hitters with a .406 average in conference play and also posted a league-best .506 on-base percentage. He was joined on the second team by fellow Bear Jaden Stone, who hit .368 and earned one of the three outfield spots.

St. Thomas had two second-team selections as Joe Roder improved from an honorable mention selection a season ago to earn a spot alongside freshman starter Owen Marsolek. Roder hit .300 with five home runs and 28 RBI, while Marsolek led all league pitchers with 61 strikeouts.

Ryan was one of two Bison on the second team and was joined by designated hitter Kyle Law, who led the league with a .671 slugging percentage. Half of Law’s 22 hits in Summit play went for extra bases, including six home runs.

The 14-player honorable mention list included four from North Dakota State, three from Northern Colorado and South Dakota State, two from Omaha and individuals from Oral Roberts and St. Thomas.

The four Bison were catcher Bennett Freiter, first baseman Chase Womack, third baseman Diego Trujillo and outfielder Dante Smith. Northern Colorado’s trio included shortstop Logan Pruski, third baseman Brandon Sanchez and starting pitcher Jake Storey.

South Dakota State’s honorees were catcher Luke Jones, utility player Nate Wachter and relief pitcher Ty Madison. Omaha’s selections were starting pitcher Sam Beck and relief pitcher Nate Moquin, while Oral Roberts first baseman Cooper Kelly and St. Thomas outfielder Easton Fritcher rounded out the honorable mention selections.

Four of the league’s six teams will begin the 2026 Summit League Baseball Championship on Wednesday at Siebert Field in Minneapolis. Action begins at noon CT when top-seeded Oral Roberts faces fourth-seeded South Dakota State. All games will be streamed on the Summit League Network.
